Journal Entry #16

Posted by Jason - June 21, 2010 at 6:46 am 3 comments - What do you think?

I am over due on getting out a journal entry, so I am taking a few moments to do so now. There are lots of new things I want to report since my last journal entry. I am now more excited than ever based on some recent developments that I will discuss shortly. I feel really fortunate to be in the position I a find myself in. From one perspective, it seems very scary knowing your current income stream will be taken away in about 70 days! From another perspective it seems very liberating to finally be on a path to live your dreams! I really don’t know what the future holds for me and my family…only time will tell. Getting comfortable with this much uncertainty is more challenging than I bargained for….

Lately I have been getting some important questions from my wife and kids concerning our future. As the pressures of time continues to bear down upon us, naturally you wonder what is going to happen. My middle son wanted to know last week, “Daddy….where are we going to move to?” I stopped what I was working on to take a moment to think about his question. As, I began to think about it, it became a bit troublesome for me as I did not have an answer to give.

I put my laptop down and went closer to him and gently grabbed his little cute face and looked into his little brown eyes. Then I asked him, where would you like to move? He paused for a second and then came up with a place that took me by surprise…. as he busted out with a lot of excitement, “Australia!” His excitement made me excited too! I learned something very valuable from my son that day. Children are way different from adults in terms of dealing with uncertainty.

Most adults like to have firm plans and know that they have important things secured in their life, like having a stable income, a place to live, retirement savings, etc. Many adults don’t like uncertainty especially when it involves their income and future. In fact many of us take comfort in knowing that they will be working at company X next week, next month, next year, and so on. If that ever gets taken away from us it can be very difficult to deal with.

Young children are very free-flowing and devote very little time to worrying about their future as they tend to be mostly focused on the present. I noticed that my children are very much like this. We are faced with an uncertain future, but yet they are excited about it. They see new possibilities where I saw limitations. They see the possibility of me working from home and spending more time with them! I don’t see any fear in the eyes of my children…only in me.

So I am now trying to be more like them and have faith instead of fear that things are going to work out great for us. Maybe even better than I imagined. Worrying demotivates me so I don’t see the benefit to doing it any more of it. I do see the benefits of imagining the possibilities, as it seems very exciting to be able to live the life of my dreams! To do what scares me the most and excites me the most at the same time. To let go of my past and embrace my future.

Reality is starting to kick in from my wife too. As she is confronted with real choices on preparing to move even though she does not know where we are moving to! I can occasionally see a bit of concern rising up inside of her as she strives to put on a unified front for the children.

She recently asked me, “What are we going to do?” Unfortunately, I did not have an answer for her either. These sorts of questions bring me back to the reality of our present situation. I am sometimes living in the future of being a professional blogger earning a six figure income. However, to answer the question, “What are we going to do”, it brings my focus back on the present. Obviously, I don’t want my wife or children to worry about our future.

I reached out to my wife and just took here into my arms and held her tightly for a while. I wanted to comfort her and let her know that we are going to be just fine. I am going to take care of everything. I wanted to tell her this, but that is not what came out of my mouth! Instead, only the truth came out…..as I told her quietly that, “I don’t know…..”

At this point, with only 70 days remaining, I have to get ready to launch a major offensive play here. Starting this week, I have to take massive action to really get my blogs to the next level. Going into July, we need to have accomplished something substantial in order to keep this dream  and our hopes alive. I do have a plan, it is a matter of flawless execution at the speed of light. I have to create the next modern-day miracle.
